Monde(s)
Monde(s) is a duo project of free improvised music. Alexandre Cahen (prepared piano) and Martin Theurillat (guitar) challenge their instruments to find new constellations of cosmic soundscapes. Inspired by electro acoustic works of Bernard Parmegianni (De Natura Sonorum), Monde(s) is a contemplative experience, the musicians discovering these new worlds together with the listeners.
Alexandre Cahen is a pianist, improviser, and composer based in Strasbourg, France. He develops a musical language that navigates between jazz and free improvisation, employing extended techniques and prepared piano to explore the rich timbres and resonances of wood and metal. As a composer, he writes for ensembles of all sizes, from intimate duos to large groups, including the Basel Jazz Orchestra and his The Art of Flying 10tet. His work blurs the line between composition and improvisation, creating dynamic sound worlds that invite both musicians and listeners into an evolving sonic journey.
Guitarist and composer Martín Theurillat moves fluidly across genres, crafting music that reflects his heritage and experiences. Born into a Chilean-Swiss family and shaped by his upbringing in Chile, he blends the influences of his roots with his later training as a jazz musician, creating a distinctive style that draws from diverse sources while resisting easy categorization. For Martín, music is a space for exploration, where tradition and innovation intersect.
