Alexandre Cahen is a pianist, improviser and composer based in Strasbourg (FR).
After completing a bachelor in medical studies, he studies jazz in Strasbourg and in Basel Jazz Campus where he graduates with 2 master’s degrees (performance and composition). Throughout his studies, he had the opportunity to work with international musicians such as Guillermo Klein, Fred Frith, Brad Mehldau, Larry Grenadier, Jorge Rossy, Caspar Johannes Walter.
As a composer and performer, Alexandre develops a musical language oscillating between jazz, contemporary classical music and free improvisation. He composes and performs his music in different settings (trio, quartet, 10tets, big band…).
Alexandre performs in many formations as leader with his quartet and as sideman: Hugo Diaz Quartet, Emilio Giovanoli Quintet, Fred Frith’s International Occasional Orchestra…
In 2023, his composition The Art of Flying is presented at the Schaffhauser Jazzfestival as part of the Music and Climate Crisis conference.
He receives the 1st prize at the competition Un Doua de Jazz and the audience prize at the Avignon Jazz Festival with the band Hugo Diaz Quartet with who he has been touring around France. In may 2024, the quartet released its first album Confluences which received critical acclaim by the French press (France Musique, Radio France, Citizen Jazz, France Info, Culture Jazz, Le Soir, etc).
Alexandre has performed extensively in France and across Europe in festivals and clubs such as Festival Sons D’Hiver (FR), Festival Jazzdor (FR), Instants Chavirés (FR), Wolfijazz (FR), La Dynamo (FR), Moods Jazz Club (CH), Bird’s Eye (CH), Clarence Jazz Club (ES), Jamboree Jazz Club (ES), Jazz en Ville (FR), Un Doua de Jazz (FR),…
